Colorado
Colorado offers the best in ski mountaineering. Over 50 14,000 foot mountains and hundreds more with huge alpine bowls, tight couloirs, and long descents. Spring offers the most stable conditions and the best time to get up high, although winter descents are a proud accomplishment as well when conditions permit. From easy approaches to technical climbing and rappels, Crested Butte classics such as The Pencil, Ruby Chute, The Spoon and Wolverine Basin serve up the steeps leaving tracks that can be seen from town! These tours are for advanced skiers who can comfortably ski any Black/Double Black Diamond run in any conditions. Ski trips are run with the cooperation of Crested Butte Mt. Guides operating on a special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service.
Chamonix
The birthplace of steep skiing! The maritime snowpack allows descents on terrain where snow doesn’t usually stick. Most lines can be accessed easily from the tram or with a short skinning approach. The Cosmiques Couloir, Glacier Ronde and Tour Ronde will get your heart racing while the Vallee Blanche and Argentier Glacier offer more mellow introductions to glacier skiing. For the ultimate ski mountaineer, a descent of Mont Blanc is a once in a lifetime expedition.
